AI Project Status Agent for Jira

Each client engagement tracked in Jira gets an accurate status update drafted from its issues, ready for your lead to send.

Clients want to know where their project stands, but turning Jira issues into a plain-language update takes your leads hours each week. This edition reads a client project's issues and comments, drafts a clear update and sends it to the engagement lead to approve. Internal comments stay out. Once approved, the update goes to the client and a Jira comment records what was sent.

  • Client updates drafted from Jira issues, movement and comments
  • Internal Jira comments excluded from every client update
  • Each sent update logged as a comment in Jira

What it is

AI Project Status Agent for Jira writes client status updates from the work your team tracks in Jira. It reads a client project's issues and comments, drafts a plain-language update in one AI step, routes it to the engagement lead for approval, and logs what was sent as a Jira comment.

Why businesses buy it

Jira holds the truth about a client project, but clients do not read Jira. Your engagement leads end up translating issue lists into emails every week, and when they are busy the update slips and the client starts to worry. This edition writes that update from the work already tracked in Jira, with a person approving every one, so clients hear from you on schedule. The Scope Card spells out the Jira field mapping, the one extra connection and the approval step before you buy, so you know exactly what it touches.

Problems this solves

Turning Jira issues into a client update takes an engagement lead hours

The agent reads a client project's Jira issues and comments, then drafts a plain-language update in one AI step. The engagement lead edits and approves rather than writing from a ticket list.

Clients cannot follow Jira jargon, ticket keys and workflow states

Updates are written in plain language from the issues and comments, so clients see progress without ticket keys. The documented field mapping sets which Jira fields feed each update.

Nobody can tell from Jira what the client was last told

Each sent update is logged back as a Jira comment through the two-way connection. Anyone opening the project can see what went to the client and when.

Granting tool access to an outside party feels risky

Access is set up through user invites or keys you control, and no keys are sent by email. You can review or revoke access in Jira whenever you choose.

A good fit if

You deliver client projects, such as implementations or development work, and each engagement lives as its own Jira project.
Partners or leads spend non-billable hours turning Jira issue lists into status emails clients can understand.
You want a record in Jira of what the client was told and when, not just a sent email in someone's inbox.
One clear status workflow of up to 12 steps is enough, and your Jira admin can give 30 minutes to a setup call.

Not the right fit if

Your clients expect a recurring report or dashboard with metrics, not a project update. See AI Client Reporting.
You want your own team chased on overdue tasks and blockers inside Jira. See AI Project Manager Agent for Jira.
Your delivery team works in Asana instead. See AI Project Status Agent for Asana.
You need status from several tools merged into one update, or more than one AI step. Add a note at checkout for a Change Quote.

How it works

  1. We agree the mapping with your Jira admin. On a 30-minute call we confirm which Jira projects belong to which client, which issue fields signal progress, and where the update is logged.
  2. On the schedule you set, the workflow reads each client project's issues and recent comments: what moved to done, what is in progress, and what is blocked or overdue.
  3. One AI drafting step turns that into a short client update in your house style, using the service information you supplied. Comments you mark as internal are left out.
  4. The draft goes to the engagement lead you named, who approves, edits or holds it. Nothing reaches a client without that check.
  5. Approved updates go to the client through the route you agreed, usually your email system as the one extra connection.
  6. A comment is added in Jira recording that the update went out, so anyone opening the project sees what the client last heard.

What you provide within 72 hours

Your portal lists these the moment you order. Delivery starts the working day after everything is in and your access is checked.

  • An Atlassian API token or OAuth app with access to the client projects.
  • Your Jira admin for a 30-minute setup call.
  • A written description, or a short screen recording, of how status updates are produced today.
  • Five to ten real past status updates, with the Jira projects they came from.
  • Your service information and client policies, so updates use the right terms.
  • The engagement lead who approves each draft, and who should receive errors.
  • Access to your email system, or whichever route sends approved updates.
  • An API key for your own AI model account (for example OpenAI or Google Gemini), created for this build with a spending limit.
The 72-hour rule. Send everything on your checklist, including access, within 72 hours of ordering so your build starts on time.

  • The AI Project Status Agent for Jira, configured and running in the background
  • A two-way Jira connection with documented field mapping, plus up to one more system

Expected benefits and how to measure them

  • Can save engagement leads time writing client updates from Jira
  • Helps clients understand progress without reading tickets
  • Makes a record of every client update inside Jira itself
Lead time per client update
Log time spent writing updates for a month before launch, then time spent approving drafts after.
Updates sent on schedule
Count update comments in each Jira project against your agreed cadence, before and after launch.
Client follow-up questions per update
Tally client replies asking for clarification for a month before launch and a month after.

Before you start: Record how long a Jira-based client update takes to write and how often updates slip past their due date.

These are things to track, not promised results. Outcomes depend on your data, your team and your market.

Running costs

The build is a one-time price. Running it costs roughly $20 to $100 a month for the automation platform and AI model usage, billed in your own accounts, and the total rises with the number of client projects and how often updates go out. Jira licenses and plan upgrades are not included.

AI usage during build and testing is also billed to you directly.

Custom requirements

A second workflow, a second AI step, or custom Jira objects outside the mapping are quoted separately. Add a checkout note and a written Change Quote arrives.

Keep it running

Monthly maintenance for the Jira edition covers monitoring, fixes and a monthly allowance of change hours, such as adding a new client's projects to the mapping.

Questions about this product

Which Jira data does the status agent use to write a client update?

Issues, projects and comments. For each client project it reads issue status, recent movement, overdue items and comments, then drafts the update in one AI step. It writes back a comment recording what was sent. Custom Jira objects outside the agreed mapping are not part of this build.

Will clients see internal Jira comments in their update?

No. Only what the drafting step summarizes goes into the update, and comments you mark as internal are excluded by rule. The engagement lead also reviews every draft before it is sent, so anything sensitive can be removed. The Jira project itself is never shared with the client.

How is AI Project Status Agent for Jira different from AI Project Manager Agent for Jira?

This edition writes client-facing status updates for professional services engagements from Jira, with a person approving each one before it is sent. AI Project Manager Agent for Jira works for your own team instead, tracking tasks, deadlines and blockers and posting internal updates across up to six workflows. Choose this one if the gap is keeping clients informed.

How often can the Jira client status update run?

On whatever schedule you set during intake, such as weekly for each client or when a milestone closes. The schedule is part of the single workflow, so changing it later is a small change inside the monthly change hours of maintenance rather than a new build.

What does the Jira status edition cost, and is faster delivery available?

Both are in the price and delivery panel on this page, which lists the one-time price for each delivery speed, including the faster options. Every option covers the same Scope Card. The clock starts once your Jira token, client project mapping and sample updates are in, which should be within 72 hours of ordering.

What does the Jira status agent cost to run each month?

Roughly $20 to $100 a month in your own accounts, covering the automation platform and AI model usage. More client projects or more frequent updates move you toward the top of that range. Your Jira subscription is separate, and monthly maintenance is optional.

Give clients a clear status without rewriting Jira by hand.
