AI Assessment Agent

Submitted assignments marked against your rubric, with scores and reasoning queued for educator review.

Marking piles up at the worst times, and tired markers drift from the rubric. AI Assessment Agent reads each submitted assignment, scores it against your own rubric and writes a short note for every criterion. Anything it is unsure about goes to an educator's review queue instead of being scored. Your educators keep the final word, and marked results land in your LMS or gradebook.

  • Submissions scored against your rubric with a note per criterion
  • Uncertain marks routed to an educator instead of guessed
  • Results written back to your LMS or gradebook

What it is

AI Assessment Agent marks already-submitted learner work, such as essays, short answers and structured assignments, against the rubric you provide, with a note for each criterion. It flags anything that needs a person's judgment for an educator to review, then passes marked results to your LMS or gradebook. It does not write questions.

Why businesses buy it

Marking structured work is necessary but repetitive, and it takes educators away from teaching and feedback conversations. When volume spikes at the end of a term, results go back late and consistency suffers between markers. This build does the first pass against the rubric you already use, so educators spend their time on borderline cases rather than routine ones. Before launch, it is tested on real sample submissions and you get a written accuracy report. The Scope Card sets the document types, fields and systems in advance, so there are no surprises.

Problems this solves

Marking stacks of structured assignments eats into teaching time

The agent marks submitted essays, short answers and structured assignments against your rubric. It adds a note for each criterion, so educators review marks rather than starting from a blank page.

Different markers score the same answer in different ways

Every submission is marked against the same rubric and validation rules. If consistency between markers is a worry, this gives a common starting point that educators then confirm.

Borderline work needs a person but gets rushed with the rest

Anything that needs human judgment goes to a review queue for an educator. The agent does not decide those cases, so tricky work gets proper attention.

Retyping marks into the gradebook wastes time and invites mistakes

Marked results pass to your LMS or gradebook through the agreed connection. Submissions arrive through one intake route, such as an upload folder or inbox.

A good fit if

Instructors spend hours marking the same type of structured assignment against a rubric every term or cohort.
You can supply at least 20 real sample submissions per assignment type, redacted if needed, and the rubric or fields to score against.
You want a person to review anything the agent is not confident about, not a fully automatic grade.
Submissions arrive through one intake route, an email inbox or an upload folder, rather than scattered channels.

Not the right fit if

You need questions written, not submissions marked. See AI Quiz Generator, built to generate quiz questions from source material.
You need broad learner Q&A about course content rather than marking. See AI Learning Assistant.
You need more than three document types or more than 25 fields per type scored. Add a note at checkout for a Change Quote, or start from our Custom AI enquiry form.
Grading needs to write results directly into more than two connected systems. Add a note at checkout for a Change Quote.

How it works

  1. You supply at least 20 real sample submissions per assignment type, redacted if needed, plus the rubric fields and validation rules to score against, up to three document types and 25 fields each.
  2. A learner's submission arrives through the intake route you chose, an email inbox or an upload folder, the same place students already submit today.
  3. The agent extracts the relevant answers and applies your rubric, scoring each field the way you defined it.
  4. Low-confidence items, an ambiguous short answer, an assignment outside the expected format, are queued for the reviewer you named rather than scored automatically.
  5. 100 sample documents are processed during testing and checked against an accuracy report before anything goes live.
  6. Scores and flagged items are written to the destination system you connected, ready for the educator's final sign-off.

What you provide within 72 hours

Your portal lists these the moment you order. Delivery starts the working day after everything is in and your access is checked.

  • The list of rubric fields to extract and the validation rules to apply.
  • Access to the destination system where scores and flagged items should land.
  • The name of the person who reviews low-confidence or unusual submissions.
  • The intake route submissions already arrive through, an email inbox or an upload folder.
  • Admin access and API keys for every connected system, shared by adding our team as a user or creating a key you control, never by email.
  • One person on your side who can approve decisions during the build.
  • An API key for your own AI model account (for example OpenAI or Google Gemini), created for this build with a spending limit.

Expected benefits and how to measure them

  • Can reduce the hours educators spend on first-pass marking
  • Helps make marking more consistent across a team of markers
  • Makes it easier to return feedback to learners sooner
Marking time per submission
Time a sample of manual marking before launch. Compare with educator review time per submission once the agent is live.
Marks changed at educator review
Count how often educators change the agent's mark. Track this monthly to see whether the rubric needs tuning.
Time from submission to returned result
Compare LMS timestamps for submission and result release for a term before launch and the term after.

Before you start: Record average marking time per submission and how long learners wait for results today. Keep a sample of marked work for comparison.

These are things to track, not promised results. Outcomes depend on your data, your team and your market.

Running costs

The build price is one-time. Running it is billed in your own accounts, mostly OCR and AI model usage plus storage: roughly $30 to $200 a month depending on submission volume.

AI usage during the build and testing is also billed to your accounts, so you keep ownership of every provider relationship. Nothing runs through us.

Custom requirements

If you need something outside the Scope Card, add a note at checkout. You get a written Change Quote, and that work only starts once you accept it. Your original order runs on its normal timeline either way. Larger or bespoke projects go through the Custom AI request form instead.

Keep it running

For AI Assessment Agent we recommend monthly maintenance: monitoring, fixes, and a monthly allowance of change hours, enough for a rubric update between terms. It starts after the thirty days of support, bills monthly, and can be cancelled any month.

$249/mo (the minimum fee, includes 2 change hours)

Optional. Starts after the post-launch support period. Cancel any month.

Questions about this product

How much does AI Assessment Agent cost?

The build is a one-time fixed price, shown in the price panel on this page beside each delivery speed. It covers the rubric and scoring setup, the educator review queue, the connection to your source and gradebook, the accuracy testing on sample submissions and the review rounds on the Scope Card. We charge nothing per submission afterwards. OCR and AI usage are billed to your own accounts.

How long until AI Assessment Agent is live?

The delivery time is fixed before you order and shown in the delivery panel on this page, with faster speeds where offered. The clock starts once your rubric, sample submissions and system access are in. Much of the build goes into testing marks against real samples and writing the accuracy report, so you see how it performs on your own work before it goes live.

How accurate is AI Assessment Agent at marking submissions?

Accuracy depends on your rubric and how consistent submissions are, which is why we process 100 real sample documents during testing and hand you a written accuracy report before launch, not a generic industry figure. Anything the agent is not confident about is queued for your reviewer rather than scored automatically, so uncertain cases never slip through silently.

What is the difference between AI Assessment Agent and AI Quiz Generator?

AI Assessment Agent marks work that has already been submitted, scoring it against your rubric. AI Quiz Generator instead writes new questions before students ever see them. They sit on opposite sides of the same assignment cycle, one produces the test, the other marks what comes back once it is complete.

What does AI Assessment Agent cost to run each month?

Running costs are separate from the build price and paid directly to your own providers, typically $30 to $200 a month for OCR, AI model usage and storage depending on submission volume. Programs marking higher volumes of assignments sit toward the higher end. Monthly maintenance is optional.

Can we change the rubric AI Assessment Agent uses later?

Yes. Two rounds of changes are included in the build, so most rubric adjustments happen before launch based on the accuracy report. After that, updates for a new term's rubric or added fields fit inside the monthly change hours that come with maintenance, and adding a fourth document type comes as a quoted add-on.

Does AI Assessment Agent write scores straight into our LMS gradebook?

It writes scores and flagged items to the destination system you connect, up to two systems including source and destination, which can be your LMS gradebook if it accepts programmatic entries. Systems such as Canvas or Moodle are common destinations; confirm your specific gradebook's access during intake so we can plan the connection.

Who owns the submissions and scores AI Assessment Agent produces?

You do. Every sample submission, rubric and scored result stays under your own account and storage throughout the build and afterwards, and we never hold a separate copy. We configure and test the extraction and scoring logic, hand over an admin guide and a recorded session, then step away at launch, apart from the 30 days of included support.

Stop marking the same rubric by hand every term.

Order AI Assessment Agent and it starts scoring submitted work against your rubric on a fixed delivery date. The scope above is what you get, in writing, before you pay.
