AI API Documentation

API reference docs and working examples stay in sync with your actual endpoints, without a person retyping them.

API docs that drift from the real endpoints cost you developer trust and support time. AI API Documentation generates reference pages and working request examples straight from your API definitions, such as an OpenAPI schema or your route code. When an endpoint changes, the affected page is flagged for review, and approved pages publish to your docs site, CMS or repository.

  • Reference pages and request examples generated from your schema
  • Changed endpoints flagged before docs go out of date
  • Approved pages published to your docs site or repository

What it is

AI API Documentation is an agent that generates reference docs and request examples straight from your API definitions, such as an OpenAPI schema or your route code. When an endpoint changes, the affected reference page is flagged instead of quietly going out of date. Pages publish once you approve them.

Why businesses buy it

For any business with an API, the docs are part of the product. When they drift, integrations break, partners lose time and your support team answers questions the docs should have covered. Writing reference pages by hand is slow and easy to skip. AI API Documentation keeps reference pages and examples in step with your actual endpoints, so developers integrate faster and your team stops retyping schemas. The Scope Card fixes the API definition, destination, reference examples and sample pages before you order, so the deliverable is clear.

Problems this solves

API reference pages drift away from how the API really behaves

Reference docs are generated straight from your API definitions, such as an OpenAPI schema or route code. When an endpoint changes, the affected page is flagged instead of quietly going out of date.

Developers integrating with you can't find working request examples

The agent writes request examples alongside each reference page. Integrators can copy a working call rather than piecing one together from field lists, which means fewer questions to your developers.

Publishing docs without review risks exposing mistakes

Pages publish only once you approve them. You review 25 sample outputs before the full set, and drafts follow your style profile and reference examples.

A good fit if

You maintain an API and your reference docs already lag behind the endpoints, parameters and response shapes that actually ship.
You have an OpenAPI schema, GraphQL schema or well-annotated route code to generate from, rather than nothing at all.
You want working request and response examples generated alongside the reference text, not just a list of parameter names.
You publish docs to one destination, such as a docs site, CMS or repository, and want that page kept current.

Not the right fit if

You need broader internal documentation, like architecture notes or setup guides, not just API reference pages. See AI Documentation Agent, built for that.
You only need release notes drafted from merged work. See AI Changelog Generator, which is narrower and cheaper still.
You need reference docs published to more than one destination at once. Add a note at checkout for a quote, or use our Custom AI enquiry form.
You maintain APIs in more than one language or framework and need them documented together. This build covers one; a second is priced separately.

How it works

  1. It reads your API definition. An OpenAPI schema, a GraphQL schema, or annotated route code is the source it drafts reference pages from.
  2. Reference pages are generated per endpoint. Parameters, request bodies and response shapes are written out in the format your docs site expects.
  3. Working examples are built alongside the text. Sample requests and responses are generated so a developer can copy one and try it.
  4. Changed endpoints are flagged. When a route's parameters or response shape change, the matching reference page is marked for review.
  5. Drafts go out for review, not publication. Each generated page lands as a pull request or a draft for someone on your side to check.
  6. Approved pages are published. Once approved, the reference page is pushed to your docs site, CMS or repository.

What you provide within 72 hours

Your portal lists these the moment you order. Delivery starts the working day after everything is in and your access is checked.

  • Your business information (company basics, hours and brand voice), shared during intake, or confirmation we can reuse what you gave us on an earlier order.
  • Your API definition, such as an OpenAPI schema, GraphQL schema, or annotated route code.
  • Your existing style guide and 10 to 20 reference pages you consider good examples of the format you want.
  • Access to the destination where reference docs should be published, such as a docs site, CMS or repository.
  • The list of endpoints to start with, and the name of the person who approves generated pages.
  • Admin access and API keys for every connected system, shared by adding our team as a user or creating a key you control, never by email.
  • One person on your side who can approve decisions during setup and sign off at launch.
  • An API key for your own AI model account (for example OpenAI or Google Gemini), created for this build with a spending limit.
The 72-hour rule. Send everything on your checklist, including access, within 72 hours of ordering so your build starts on time.

What you receive at handover

  • The API documentation pipeline delivering to one destination, such as your CMS or drive
  • Reference pages and request examples generated from your API definitions
  • Change flagging for endpoints whose pages need updating
  • 25 sample outputs reviewed and approved by you
  • Admin guide, recorded 45-minute handoff session and 30 days of support

Expected benefits and how to measure them

  • Can keep your API reference in step with each release.
  • Helps integrators get a first call working with less back-and-forth.
Docs-related support questions
Count integration questions that the reference should have answered, a month before launch and after.
Pages out of date
Track how many flagged pages are waiting for approval at the end of each month.
Time to first successful call
Ask new integrators how long their first working request took, before and after the new docs.

Before you start: Count endpoints with missing or outdated pages today. Note last month's support questions about the API.

These are things to track, not promised results. Outcomes depend on your data, your team and your market.

Running costs

The build price is one-time. Running it costs roughly $20 to $150 a month in AI model usage in your own accounts, depending on how many endpoints it documents each month.

AI usage during the build and testing is also billed to your accounts, so you keep ownership of every provider relationship. Nothing runs through us.

Custom requirements

If you need something outside the Scope Card, add a note at checkout. You get a written Change Quote, and that work only starts once you accept it. Your original order runs on its normal timeline either way. Larger or bespoke projects go through the Custom AI request form.

Request a custom version

Keep it running

We recommend monthly maintenance, with a monthly allowance of change hours for regenerating pages after a schema change or adjusting the example format. It starts after the 30 days of support, bills monthly, and can be cancelled any month.

$249/mo (the minimum fee, includes 2 change hours)

Optional. Starts after the post-launch support period. Cancel any month.

Questions about this product

What does the AI API Documentation build include?

Everything on the Scope Card: reference pages and request examples generated from your API definition, changed-endpoint flagging, publishing to one destination after approval, and sample pages for your review, two rounds of changes and the recorded handoff session. The price is fixed and shown on this page before you order, and it does not change once your Scope Card is confirmed. AI usage is billed to your own accounts.

How much does it cost to run AI API Documentation each month?

Roughly $20 to $150 a month in AI model usage in your own accounts, not ours. The figure depends on how many endpoints it documents each month. Monthly maintenance is separate and optional, for ongoing changes. Its change hours cover regenerating pages after a schema change or adjusting the example format, and it starts after the post-launch support period.

When does AI API Documentation go live?

Delivery runs on a fixed schedule, and the delivery panel shows the standard date plus express and rush options before you order. The clock starts once your API definition and destination access are confirmed and your intake is complete, not the day you place the order, so sending them early keeps the date.

What kind of API definition does AI API Documentation need?

An OpenAPI schema, a GraphQL schema, or well-annotated route code, plus 10 to 20 reference pages you like the format of. It generates from what you provide; it does not guess at endpoints that are not defined. Every credential is shared by adding our team as a user or creating a key you control, not by email.

Does AI API Documentation publish reference pages automatically?

No. Every generated page lands as a pull request or a draft for someone on your side to review first. Nothing publishes until a person approves it, whether or not the endpoint change was routine. That review step is fixed, not optional.

Can I regenerate docs after my API changes later?

Yes. Regenerating pages after a schema change fits inside the monthly change hours that come with maintenance. A larger change, like adding a second destination, is scoped and priced separately as a written Change Quote before any work starts. Maintenance starts after the post-launch support period, also covers monitoring and fixes, and can be cancelled any month.

Can I cancel the AI API Documentation maintenance?

Yes, in any month. Plans bill monthly with no lock-in, and the build keeps generating pages either way; cancelling only stops the included monitoring, fixes and hours. The 30 days of post-launch support continue regardless of whether you keep a plan.

Who owns the reference pages AI API Documentation generates?

You do. Once approved and published, every reference page is your content in your docs site, CMS or repository. The generation rules and examples built for you also belong to your business, and keep working even if maintenance later lapses.

Keep your API docs honest, automatically.

Order AI API Documentation and on a fixed delivery date it starts generating reference pages and examples from your API definitions.
