AI Recommendation Engine for Shopify

Product recommendations computed from your Shopify orders and customers, ready for your storefront and email, and checked against history first.

Your Shopify store already knows what customers buy together and what they come back for. This edition turns that order and customer history, plus browsing data from one more system, into personalized recommendations for your storefront and email tools. It writes agreed fields back to Shopify, is tested against your own history first, and alerts you when buying patterns shift.

  • Recommendations built from your own Shopify orders and customers
  • Tested against your purchase history before launch
  • Alerts when buying patterns shift

What it is

AI Recommendation Engine for Shopify computes personalized product recommendations from your Shopify store's orders, customers and products, plus browsing data from one more system. It delivers them as a recurring feed or dashboard for your storefront and email tools, writes agreed fields back to Shopify, and alerts you to shifts. It is tested against your own history first.

Why businesses buy it

Generic related-product blocks miss what your customers actually want, and that costs you basket size and repeat orders. Shopify holds the data you need, but turning it into useful recommendations usually means another expensive subscription. This edition computes them from your own store and keeps them current. The documented field mapping and written scope set out what is read, what is written back to Shopify and how results are tested before you order.

Problems this solves

Shopify related products ignore what each customer has already bought

The engine reads your Shopify orders, customers and products, plus browsing data from one more system. It computes suggestions per customer and per product, delivered as a recurring feed for your storefront.

Recommendation data lives outside Shopify where the team rarely looks

Agreed fields are written back to Shopify through a documented two-way field mapping. Recommendation data then sits on the customer and product records your team already opens every day.

App setup often means store keys get shared over email

Access is set up through staff invites or keys you control, and no keys are sent by email. You keep the ability to review or remove that access yourself.

A good fit if

You sell on Shopify, and your product suggestions still lean on manual picks or a fixed list of top products.
You have at least three months of Shopify order history, and an analytics or email platform that holds browsing behavior.
Your theme or email tool can take a recommendation feed, or read recommendations from Shopify fields you agree on.
You want measured results, with defined metrics, a recurring report and alerts, not a set-and-forget widget.

Not the right fit if

You want shoppers guided by a live conversation on your site. See Shopify AI Sales Assistant.
You want lapsed customers won back with offers rather than shown recommendations. See AI Win-Back Agent for Shopify.
You want recommendations made inside WhatsApp conversations. See WhatsApp AI Ecommerce Agent for Shopify.
Your store runs on WooCommerce. See AI Recommendation Engine for WooCommerce.

How it works

  1. Shopify is connected through a custom app with Admin API scopes. On a 30-minute call with your Shopify admin, we agree what is read and which fields, if any, are written back.
  2. At least three months of orders, customers, products and fulfilments form the purchase side of the model. Browsing behavior comes from your one extra system, such as your analytics or email platform.
  3. Recommendation sets are computed per customer and per product, guided by up to 25 metrics or questions you define, such as what counts as a repeat-purchase signal.
  4. The model is checked against three months of your Shopify history before launch, so its suggestions match what customers actually went on to buy.
  5. Results arrive through one delivery channel as a recurring feed, report or dashboard for your storefront and email tools, with agreed fields written back to Shopify.
  6. Up to five alerts flag changes worth a look, such as a recommended product's sales falling or a new item starting to drive repeat orders.

What you provide within 72 hours

Your portal lists these the moment you order. Delivery starts the working day after everything is in and your access is checked.

  • A Shopify custom app with Admin API scopes, created by your store admin.
  • Your Shopify admin for a 30-minute setup call.
  • At least three months of order history in Shopify.
  • Read access to the one extra system that holds browsing behavior.
  • Your definitions of the metrics that matter, such as what a repeat purchase is.
  • Your shipping, returns and refund policies, and your product catalog data.
  • Who receives the report and alerts, through which channel, and one decision-maker.
  • An API key for your own AI model account (for example OpenAI or Google Gemini), created for this build with a spending limit.
The 72-hour rule. Send everything on your checklist, including access, within 72 hours of ordering so your build starts on time.

Expected benefits and how to measure them

  • Helps keep recommendation data inside Shopify rather than in loose exports
  • Alerts can make it easier to spot shifts in buying patterns early
Units per order
Compare the figure in Shopify Analytics for the four weeks before the feed goes live with the four weeks after.
Average order value
Read it from the Shopify sales overview for matching periods, avoiding launch weeks that overlap a promotion.
Orders containing a recommended product
Count them monthly using the field written back to Shopify, then compare month on month.

Before you start: Export last month's average order value and units per order from Shopify Analytics. Note which theme sections currently show related products.

These are things to track, not promised results. Outcomes depend on your data, your team and your market.

Running costs

The build is a one-time price. Running the engine costs roughly $20 to $150 a month for AI model usage and the hosting or scheduler that refreshes recommendations, billed to your own accounts. Your Shopify plan is unchanged, since licenses and upgrades are not included.

AI usage during the build and testing is billed to you as well.

Custom requirements

Separate models per market, a second delivery channel, a third data source, or custom Shopify objects outside the mapping need a written Change Quote. Add a note at checkout and we send it to you. Larger or bespoke projects go through the Custom AI request form instead.

Keep it running

Monthly maintenance for this edition covers monitoring, fixes and a monthly allowance of change hours, enough to retrain after a big catalog change or add new metrics. Bigger changes go through a Change Quote.

$265/mo (5% of the build price a month, includes 2 change hours)

Optional. Starts after the post-launch support period. Cancel any month.

Questions about this product

Which Shopify data does the recommendation engine read and write?

It reads products, orders, customers, fulfilments and discounts through a custom app with Admin API scopes. Writing back is limited to the fields agreed in the mapping, for example where your theme reads recommendations from. Custom Shopify objects outside that mapping are not part of this build.

Where does browsing behavior come from for the Shopify edition?

From the one extra system on the Scope Card, usually your analytics or email platform, since Shopify order data shows what people bought, not what they viewed. Combining both bases recommendations on interest as well as purchases. Without a behavior source, the engine works from purchase history alone.

Can AI Recommendation Engine for Shopify show whether recommended items sell at full price?

Yes, if you define it as one of your metrics. Because Shopify discounts are in the mapping, the recurring report can show the share of recommended-item orders that used a discount, alongside the other metrics you choose, up to 25 in total.

How is the Shopify recommendation model tested before launch?

Against three months of your own Shopify history. We check whether the recommendations it would have made match what customers actually bought next, and share the results with you. Two rounds of changes follow your review, before the first live feed is delivered.

What does the Shopify recommendation edition cost with faster delivery?

Each delivery speed has one fixed price. The price panel shows standard, express and rush side by side before you pay, and the cart confirms your delivery date. The clock starts once your Shopify app access, metric definitions and behavior data source are verified, which is due within 72 hours of ordering. Running costs of roughly $20 to $150 a month are separate and paid to your own providers.

What will the Shopify recommendation engine cost each month?

Roughly $20 to $150 a month for AI model usage and the scheduler that refreshes recommendations, billed to your own accounts. Your Shopify subscription is separate. Monthly maintenance is optional and covers retraining and new metrics within its monthly change hours.

Let your Shopify history choose what to show next.
