Cookie Policy
Our website uses only the cookies and browser storage it needs to work. They keep you signed in, keep your cart and checkout working, and remember the products you picked to compare. One optional cookie remembers a partner’s referral link, and only if you say yes when you arrive through that link. Google Analytics cookies count visits only if you accept them in our cookie banner, and you can change your choice at any time through “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page. We do not use advertising cookies.
1. Who we are
This website is operated by UPMARK, a sole proprietorship owned by Amit Govil, trading as Upmark Labs, 3/3 B, Saket Nagar, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh 462024, India (“we”, “us”, “our”). We run the Upmark Labs website (the “website”). This Cookie Policy explains what cookies and similar storage the website uses, why, and how you can control them.
This policy should be read with our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal data more generally, and our Terms of Use.
2. What this policy covers
This policy covers cookies and similar storage set by the website when you visit it, create an account, use the cart or checkout, or use the compare feature.
It does not cover:
- cookies set by other websites you visit, including websites we link to;
- cookies set by a payment provider on its own pages (see section 6); or
- cookies or tracking used in systems we build or connect for our customers. Those systems run in the customer’s own accounts, and the customer decides how they use cookies. Where we handle personal data in those systems for a customer, our Data Processing Addendum applies.
3. What cookies and similar storage are
These terms have the following meanings in this policy:
- Cookie: a small text file that a website places in your browser. Your browser sends it back to that website on later requests, so the website can recognize your browser.
- Session cookie: a cookie that is deleted when you close your browser.
- Persistent cookie: a cookie that stays in your browser until a set expiry date or until you delete it.
- First-party cookie: a cookie set by the website you are visiting. All cookies listed in section 4 are first-party cookies.
- Third-party cookie: a cookie set by a different website or service than the one you are visiting. The website does not set third-party cookies.
- Local storage: a storage area in your browser that a website can use to save information on your device. Unlike a cookie, it is not sent to the website’s server with each request. It stays until it is deleted by the website, by you, or by your browser settings.
- Strictly necessary: cookies or storage that are needed to provide a service you have asked for, such as signing in, keeping items in a cart, or completing checkout. The website cannot provide that service without them.
In this policy, “cookies” includes local storage and similar technologies unless we say otherwise.
4. Cookies and storage we use
We use only strictly necessary cookies and storage. The tables below list each one.
4.1 Sign-in cookies
These cookies are set by WordPress, the software that runs the website, when you sign in to your account. They are set only for signed-in users.
| Name | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| wordpress_logged_in_* | Shows that you are signed in and identifies your account, so you can use your account area and see your orders. | Ends when you close your browser. If you choose to stay signed in, 14 days. | First-party cookie, strictly necessary |
| wordpress_sec_* | Stores secure sign-in details so that pages that need you to be signed in can check your session safely. | Ends when you close your browser. If you choose to stay signed in, 14 days. | First-party cookie, strictly necessary |
| wordpress_test_cookie | Checks that your browser accepts cookies when you open the sign-in page, so we can tell you if signing in will not work. | Session (deleted when you close your browser) | First-party cookie, strictly necessary |
The “*” stands for a random string that is unique to the website.
4.2 Cart and checkout cookies
These cookies are set by WooCommerce, the shop software the website uses, when you add something to your cart or start checkout.
| Name | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| woocommerce_cart_hash | Records a code that changes when the contents of your cart change, so the website can tell when the cart needs to be updated. | Ends when you close your browser | First-party cookie, strictly necessary |
| woocommerce_items_in_cart | Records whether your cart has items in it, so the website shows the correct cart. | Ends when you close your browser | First-party cookie, strictly necessary |
| wp_woocommerce_session_* | Holds a unique code for your shopping session, so the website can link you to your cart and checkout details stored on our server. | 2 days | First-party cookie, strictly necessary |
4.3 Local storage
| Name | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| upmarkConsent | Remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics cookies, so the banner does not ask again on every page. It is not sent to our server. | Until you change your choice or clear your browser storage | First-party local storage, strictly necessary |
| upmarkCompare | Remembers the products you selected to compare (up to four), so your compare list stays in place as you move around the website. It holds product identifiers only and is not sent to our server. | Until you clear your compare list or your browser storage | First-party local storage, strictly necessary |
4.4 Referral cookie (only with your consent)
If you arrive through a referral partner’s link, the website asks whether it may remember the referral. This cookie is set only if you choose “Yes, remember it”. If you choose “No thanks”, nothing is stored.
| Name | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| upmark_ref | Holds the referral partner’s code, so the partner is credited if you buy. It is read only by our website and is not shared with the partner or anyone else. | 30 days | First-party cookie, optional, set only with your consent |
4.5 Analytics cookies (only with your consent)
If you choose “Accept analytics” in our cookie banner, the website loads Google Analytics, which counts visits and shows us which pages people use, which forms are sent and which orders are placed. We use this only to improve the website. Google signals and advertising features are turned off, and Google Analytics does not store IP addresses. If you choose “Reject”, or make no choice, Google Analytics is not loaded and none of these items are set. Signed-in staff and the portal are never measured.
| Name | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Tells one visitor’s visits apart from another’s with a random number. It does not identify you by name. | 2 years | First-party cookie set by Google Analytics, optional, set only with your consent |
| _ga_KSK6ZDDXB9 | Keeps the state of the current visit, such as when it started. | 2 years | First-party cookie set by Google Analytics, optional, set only with your consent |
| upmarkGa:… | Notes that a request or an order was already counted, so it is not counted twice if you reload the page. | Until you clear your browser storage | First-party local storage, optional, set only with your consent |
Google acts as our service provider for this measurement. See our Subprocessors page and our Privacy Policy.
The durations above are the standard settings of the software that sets each item. Your browser settings can shorten them.
5. What we do not use
The website does not use:
- analytics or statistics cookies, unless you accept them as described in section 4.5;
- advertising or marketing cookies;
- tracking pixels, social media plugins or other technologies that track you across websites; or
- third-party CAPTCHA services. To protect our forms from spam, we use checks that run on our own server and do not set cookies.
We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
6. Payment providers
Card and PayPal payments will be processed by PayPal once that option is enabled. If you choose to pay this way, PayPal may set its own cookies when you use its pages or payment components. Those cookies are controlled by PayPal under its own cookie and privacy policies, not by us. We never see or store your full card details.
If you pay by bank transfer, which is available on request, no payment provider cookies are involved.
7. When we ask for consent
Privacy laws in many countries, including in the European Union and the United Kingdom, allow a website to use strictly necessary cookies without asking for consent first. The cookies and storage in sections 4.1 to 4.3 are strictly necessary for services you ask for, such as signing in, using your cart, checking out, or comparing products, so they are set without asking.
The analytics cookies in section 4.5 are not strictly necessary, so the website asks first with a cookie banner on your first visit. “Accept analytics” and “Reject” are the same size and each takes one click. Nothing from Google Analytics is loaded until you accept. You can change your choice at any time with the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of every page. If you withdraw consent, the website deletes the Google Analytics cookies it can reach and stops loading Google Analytics.
The referral cookie in section 4.4 is not strictly necessary, so we ask first, only to visitors who arrive through a referral link, and saying no is as easy as saying yes. You can withdraw consent at any time by deleting the cookie in your browser (see section 9).
You can still block or delete these cookies at any time (see section 9). Some parts of the website will then not work.
8. If we add other cookies in the future
If we decide to add any cookie or similar technology that is not strictly necessary, such as analytics or marketing cookies, we will:
- update this Cookie Policy before we start using it, and list the new item with its name, purpose, duration and type;
- ask for your consent through a banner before any non-essential cookie is set on your device;
- make the “Reject” choice as easy and as visible as the “Accept” choice;
- not set any non-essential cookie unless you have accepted it; and
- let you change your mind and withdraw consent at any time, as easily as you gave it.
9. How to control cookies in your browser
Most browsers let you:
- see the cookies and site data stored on your device;
- delete some or all cookies and site data, including local storage;
- block cookies from specific websites or from all websites; and
- delete all cookies when you close the browser.
These settings are usually in the “Privacy”, “Security” or “Site data” section of your browser’s settings. Your browser’s help pages explain the exact steps. On a phone or tablet, check the settings of the browser app you use.
You can also change your analytics choice at any time with the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of every page.
If you block or delete the cookies and storage listed in sections 4.1 to 4.3:
- you will not be able to sign in or stay signed in to your account;
- your cart may be emptied, and you may not be able to complete checkout; and
- your compare list will be cleared.
You can also clear your compare list at any time by removing the products from it on the website.
10. Personal data in cookies
Some cookies listed in section 4 contain codes that link to your account or shopping session. This information can be personal data. We use it only to provide the website and the services you asked for. Our Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, why, how long we keep it, who we share it with, and your rights.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy when the website changes, for example if we add, remove or change a cookie, or if the law changes. We will publish the updated version on this page with a new effective date. If we plan to add non-essential cookies, we will follow the steps in section 8 before we use them.
